I thought these were indestructible engines? Well do the 5.9s use the same transmission.

Exact same trans.

They are rugged, but, more than 300K miles? It ain't a diesel.

I have a 5.9l with the same symptoms. Would it be beneficial to swap motors on mine as well?

Yeah unfortunately around here is buy and guess so I can easily end up in the same issue or worse.

So pick one up cheap, go thru it. (gaskets, seals, rings, bearings) Then just swap 'em over. That way, you can still drive your truck while rebuilding a motor.
