Default Pcm no bus

Changing my 318 pcm for a 360 pcm. First one i had would start then stall and give no bus message. Got a second one and it runs fine but every light is on the dash amd no bus message. Ive rewrote the vin into the 360 pcm and still no bus. Runs perfect with the 318 pcm with no lights so I know it's something with the pcm. Could I just have a dud pcm twice over or am I missing something?

My wife drove our 2001 2500 diesel 2 hours on Friday.
when she got home the gauges were not working and the no bus code was displayed.

I disconnected the batteries and cleaned the all of the terminals and battery posts.I then checked the fuses which were fine.
I also found that the wire connector screw going into the engine bay fuse box was a little loose.
Started it up and the gauges all worked .The no bus code was gone but there was a "P" code present which I was able to clear.

Drove it today and all is fine.

If i were to buy a remanufactured pcm for my exact truck but with a 5.9, is there anything else that has to be programmed aside from the vin?

Yep, flash it to the correct vin, and you are set.

What about getting a good used pcm for the correct year? Will it still need to be flashed to communicate with the cluster?

It will talk to the cluster regardless. Its the ABS, and air bags that get annoyed if the VIN doesn't match.
