It sounds to me like a loose wire/broken solder point making contact when lifted. That, or a blocked line somewhere. Just my 2 cents.

Nope. You are testing the wires, to make sure they are good.

My multimeter does not have an Ohm listing. Which one do I set

I am pretty sure he has a continuity tester but I am not sure what it looks like lol.

Bottom left, with the green outline, is the ohm selection.
