I do still have the original sensors in the original plenum. If the test shows that this is my problem will changing the plenums solve it or do I have to do the harness change instead? Going out now to try it.

If the plugs are the same, that's all you need. I don't think there is any difference in the sensor from year to year..... but, all that means is that I haven't experienced a difference.

The test failed but as 2Bit stated, the heat gauge works with the single wire sensor plugged in. I used a heat gun on the sensors. Still runs horribly otherwise. I grounded the sensors with jumper cables hooked to the negative terminal of the battery. As far as the wiring is concerned does it matter that the donor was a manual and mine is auto? Same for the pcm? I still have the donor truck so everything I would need is available to me assuming it would work from a manual to auto. Thanks for all this info guys I really appreciate it.

The problem is going from 97 to 98. Wiring harness, PCM, and all sorts of other stuff is gonna be different.

One other thing I didnt mention is that I had to buy a pick up coil/cam sensor for a 97 because the plug on the harness for it is different from 97 to 98. I was told any magnum engine from a 2nd gen Ram would be a direct swap with no problems before I started this project.

The only difference in the harness was the plug for the pickup coil and the extra coupler for the heat gauge sensor. Everything else was an exact match.

At least part of the problem is going to be from running a 5.2 liter, on 5.9 liter programming, gonna be a tad rich at idle.......

How's the crank sensor? They are frequently victims of engine/trans swaps...... The sensors are different from manual to auto trans as well.

Put a new crank sensor in during the install. There is no check engine light on. I feel like a dumba** at the moment. One thing I over looked is that the truck has been sitting since 2016. The fuel gauge read empty so I put 5 gallons of gas in it. Im going to let it idle until its out of gas (sitting on empty again now) could possibly be in the fuel. At least thats what I'm hoping for. I havent done a fuel pressure check either.

Well, the gas is only a bit old......

Let us know what happens.
