Fuel sync will make it run poorly, but, it should still run.
There are timing marks on the dampner, roll it around to 0, see where the rotor is pointing, and see if the valves on that cylinder are open or close. (blow some compressed air into it, see what happens.)
Ok I rented a 32mm socket, fan clutch tool, and a harmonic balancer puller. Tomorrow I will tear it down and point the cam dot at 6 o'clock and the crankshaft dot at 12 o'clock, which it should be already. Then check that the rotor is at #6 cylinder and the #6 cylinder is compressed, correct?
i read something about a link in the chain being lined up with something. Does that matter?
What if the rotor is off? Then adjust the cam?
Or what if the #1 cylinder is compressed instead of #6? Then unhook the chain and rotate the crankshaft 360°?
With cam and crank dot to dot, 6 should be in firing postion, and all should be well. If the distributor wasn't disturbed, it doesn't have any choice but be correct.
Lining up chain links just doesn't matter on the 5.2/5.9 motors, that was more for the 4.7 with it's overhead cams.
No, both springs will be fully extended. (valves closed.)
Was tearing it down. The black plastic piece under the distributor cap might not have been lined up. Found 2 broken spark plugs. Lined the black piece up. Put the distributor cap back on. Going to replace the 2 spark plugs and try it. Hopefully thats all it was.
Rotor was lined up with #3. #3 piston seemed all the way up. Took out the plug and stuck a piece of wood in there. Didn't go in far.
