Have a link to share on that operation? I haven't seen anyone do a tracloc while its still in the housing.
Just lookin' at the procedure in the FSM. There are some special tools 'required', but, many folks have done them without the special tools. Doing it on the bench would certainly be easier, but, it look eminently doable with the carrier in the axle. Just not as comfortable.

Probably the same section, and yes, it shows pulling it out of the pig first. (otherwise, some of the special tools are unusable. no room)
I suspect the hardest part would be compressing the clutch packs enough to get the retainers in place...... There was a thread recently about someone doing this, just in the last few days..... Don't recall we section it was though. (everyone and their cousin used these, rams, dakotas, durangos...... )

Chris fix has a video of doing clutches while the carrier is still inside. I did the something on my 9.25 Chrysler and Dana 80 before I destroyed it lol

OK. Watched enough of that video to see that process would likely work for a trac-loc posi unit, but not a power-loc posi unit. The power-loc case is bolted together all the way around and has no large window in the case to allow for easy access of the clutches.
Well, the Ford has an easily accessible outer spring. The Dana 60 trackloc utilizes a belleville washer to apply clutch pressure, between the spider gear and clutchpac. The way everyone I've seen compress that is using a bolt/nut through where the axle would be, easy when the carrier is on the bench. Maybe a long threaded rod could work to compress the washer.... certainly very awkward, if you're by yourself. Hmmm... You guys are REALLY encouraging me to work this on my own... its like you don't like the service economy we live in...

Obligatory track bar content.... Called SSI this morning, left a message with a human. Got a call back at the end of the day. Confirmed, the OEM trackbar should work - if the truck is stock height. And it is, so I ordered the SSI bracket from PDP. Also the new bushings arrived today. I should be ready to paint the bar now, it has been 24 hours since I applied the corroseal. We are now thread subject compliant !

If you even have to pull the carrier (I didn't on my 80) you just have to pull it slowly and make sure you mark what shims went to each side and you'll be fine. It's not as hard as everyone makes it sound unless you forget which side the shims went
Yeah, the real problem hits when I find the carrier is screwed and now I have to tow it to the driveline guy... Maybe I'll pull the cover and try see what is going on in there. If its like my 04, and the dang clutch finger cilps are broken... grrrrr... stupid Dana corporation. First pic, the dang $2 clutch clip that break in the 3rd gen 1500s and can end up costing you a carrier, bearings and housing. After looking at the rebuild kits for this thing, I'm now really starting to think more seriously about a Detroit TruTrac....

Yeah, those clips are a problem on ALL the power loc diffs. Usually, the just break, and end up on the bottom of the pig. If you are really unlucky, that will take a trip thru the spiders, and REALLY foul things up.
