Hah, look up unlucky on the internet, you will find a picture of me.
That is half a $3 can of satin black rustoleum from home depot. Once installed, it'll get coated with fluid film attract dirt like all get out.... and look like I never painted it. But it won't rust any more.
Hey, if I forget to retrieve that bar from the front yard kinda near the sidewalk, its not like its intentional now is it?

Of course not.
You would need to have a camera pointed at it though, so in the event it tried to walk away, you could catch it.
Yeah, the real problem hits when I find the carrier is screwed and now I have to tow it to the driveline guy... Maybe I'll pull the cover and try see what is going on in there. If its like my 04, and the dang clutch finger cilps are broken... grrrrr... stupid Dana corporation. First pic, the dang $2 clutch clip that break in the 3rd gen 1500s and can end up costing you a carrier, bearings and housing. After looking at the rebuild kits for this thing, I'm now really starting to think more seriously about a Detroit TruTrac....
Second pic, in support of the thread subject - the painted 3rd gen track bar.
If I threw that bar in the grass near the sidewalk, I'd have at least one person in the household freak out thinking its a black snake Not that I'm thinking about doing that..maahhhahaa
Kids: can we go out an swing?
Dad: uhh... You can't it's broken
*Meanwhile takes the swings off and uses it as a paint rack*
I don't use Fluid Film I use Corrosion X HD or Cosmoline RP342 we use that on the frames for the military vehicles and I've seen a frame after being submerged in saltwater for 4 weeks and hit with basically a sand Blaster and it didn't even touch it.

Where I come from - that is absolutely a paint rack; only sometimes re-purposed as a jungle gym. Somewhat not a great place to paint though, hanging wet painted parts over your bug infested lawn...
Ok, you're the second one in a week to claim you've got a better solution than Fluid Film.... I may have to try a new experiment.... But I'm not sure I want something I can't remove when I want to....
I'm all out of obligatory trackbar content... I think everyone is bored with the trackbar talk, they'll glob onto anything not trackbar in this thread... and not like I'm right there with them.... I'll update this one again when the adapter shows up

It's basically a really good clear coat. I like it and I could probably get you a case from work on the RP342 stuff. I really like it but haven't tried it on my truck yet still trying to get my frame rust free electrolysis didn't work as if I would have let it finish I wouldn't have body mounts. Won't get them installed until winter or next summer
PDP sent me a USPS tracking number for the conversion bracket. Just checked tracking, its on the way? They must have had inventory. USPS says that package will arrive Friday. Hope its a bracket and not a mistake... If it is the bracket, I'll have a new track bar installed for the weekend ! Guess I better get going on that replacement steering box...

Energy bushings installed in the 3rd gen bar; not as trivial as you'd think. I have a large press, but instead I used a bench vise, part of a ram door hinge as backing for the bushing, a piece of conduit joiner (let the bushing slide through), and needed an extra set of hands to manage all the pieces while I basically struggled to jam 10lbs of crap in a 5 lb bag while trying to grab a greased pig. Drop anything with that grease on it, and you be dismayed to discover how sticky it is, how dirty your shop floor is, and how hard it is to remove stuff from that grease. The metal sleeves went in much easier, but still was a press fit. Should be nice and tight, hope that bracket locates the frame end of that bar properly so it centers my axle and is at the right angle so the bolts go straight through the sleeves. Still thinking about those risks... I'm thinking the bar gets bolted in tight on both ends, before the bracket gets fulled seated and tightened....
USPS says they expect to deliver tomorrow, a day earlier than initially reported. I think they're on crack!
Bracket showed up today. Lota heft, really thick steel. I wouldn't be able to bend something up like that with my tooling. I guess its worth the $ that way. Didn't have much time, but got the axle end bolt of the 2nd gen track out. That track bar must have been in there a while, the cotter pin on the joint side is totally crusted in there. Spent a little time trying to see if I could just work it free, but it just kept breaking off. Not enough room to get the impact wrench in there, at least I don't think so. I'll muscle it off tomorrow afternoon and then start the installation.
