Well it finally happened. Lost 2 cylinder after replacing heads, timing chain and some other stuff. So now gonna do an engine change. Found one for 400 that has 127,000 on it better then the 180 on this one. Knew it was going to happen but had to keep her running till the end.
So the question is what is the easiest way to swap engines. leave tranny in or take out with engine? What about shorty headers? Are they woth it?
Been 35 years since did a engine swap but figured I can dig deep in my brain and remember a few things. So ny advice or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Take the tranny out with the engine. Yes the shorty headers are worth it.

 

Being as you have a 4x4, leave the trans in place.

Shorties are worth it.

LOLOL. Don't tell your friends it's an engine swap party, just tell them it's a party. Wait until they get there to spring the 'surprise' on them.

 

Bought some Manzo stainless shorties of fleabay for my daughter's 87 chevy. They are decent quality and have a nice thick flange. They made a noticeable difference. Get Remflex gaskets. I'd try to remove the engine alone if you can. Remove the crank sensor first.

I can pull one out in about 34 minutes you can thank my buddies truck for that. It went through engines like gasoline

 

Gonna throw another thing into the mix here. How hard to change the front tranny seal while got them separated. Also would it be worth it to throw an new torque converter in?

 

Front seal isn't hard if you use a seal puller (basically a big pick) it'll take about 10-12 minutes. Throwing a new converter in won't hurt. I would if I was about 150,000
