For cheap you can permanently lock the CAD and not have any more issues, or you can convert to the Posi Lok cable actuator. I would never want to rely on a vacuum system for my 4x4 to work.
I had the Posi Lol on another truck and hated it. Cabin isn't bad but I'm probably going to convert it to electric
Take the actuator off slide the fork over and put some washers or a spacer on it to keep it in place. It has no effect on fuel mileage, Jeep did away with it in 91 on the XJ and 97 on the Wrangler, the straight axle rams got rid of it in 02, none of those had any fuel mileage drop because of it.
