That's pretty crazy. I don't really understand how that works with the setup.

It's basically a vibration damper. I would guess that it is between the splines on the male part of the slip yoke, and the female part of the shaft. The nylon would act as a shock aborber, and it could also be cast/machined with tighter tolerances, so it was a slight 'interference' fit, grease it good, and you have a splined joint with no slop. It can deal with pressure, but, it would need to be pretty tight, as it wouldn't last long if it was getting hammered every time you applied power to the front wheels. Actually, it's a neat solution. The nylon takes the beating, instead of the splines. The nylon takes the beating, so the expensive metal parts don't have to. (but, they will start taking the beating, once the nylon looks like the one in the pic. )

That's a good explanation. I've probably seen it before and didn't even realize it was there. Thanks!

I officially am lost. I now gear a bang when I engage 4wd, so I thought u joints. Here is what I did so far. Had my driveshaft checked, nope it's balanced. Changed u joints with Spicer ones (twice). Had my tires road balanced (they were good to begin with), opened up the diff and had the axles out checked the diff, all bearings and everything is good. Now it has to be the transfer case. Does anyone know if the 2500 transfer case will bolt up? I'll get one from the scrap yard and rebuild it then swap them out

Which truck is this on?

Any of the 231/241 cases will bolt up, there is just some variation in driveshaft length.

Its the 01 Ram 2500 with the 1500 axles. I wonder if I'll need a new driveshaft...?

Think I would look for one identical to what you already have in there. Stock 2500's came with the 241...... Since yours has already been modified, I would bet the rear u-joint won't match up to the correct length 2500 driveshaft.....

Took the transfer case off and swapped it with a rebuilt one a buddy had and.... There is still a vibration. It's related to speed the faster I go the worse it gets but gets better if I let off the gas. So it has to be either driveshaft or axle related I would think.
