No, that being unplugged will simply disable the a/c compressor. (which you don't really need in winter anyway.......) I would ask him if the a/c works otherwise....... or, when the last time it worked was.

You are going to have to plug in with a scanner, and see what code is set, that is turning on the Check Engine lite. Without that information, no one can say whether clearing the codes will keep it gone for any appreciable amount of time. Keep in mind, clearing codes with some of the 'cheap' scanners also purges all learned data from the PCM, including emissions readiness monitors. A few of those will also cause a failed inspection.

Okay he went to advanced and got the codes scanned, but he did the battery trick, got the codes to go away. The two codes were:
1. P0455 Evaporative Emission Leak Monitor Large Leak Detected
2. 71 Electronic Control Unit Random Access Memory Read/Write Malfunction

Any ideas what those could be for and how expensive that might be to repair? I'm gonna go get it today I think. Its in PA, about a 2 hour drive for me, so I'll be leaving in about two hours. Thank you!

ECU memory error is a fatal one. Which unit was coughing up that code?

We didn't have time today, which I'm glad about now, I'd like to look into this more now too. Would it be an easy fix or very expensive and time-consuming? Or do you mean Fatal to the engine?

That's the ABS module. You can replace the module which you can get from a junkyard, so that will vary on price for where you live. You don't need it just won't have ABS (which could fail you in your state because it could be a safety issue). All in all I know in my state (PA) I could fix both those codes for under $50. One last thing looks like there were 3 codes (upper right hand corner) and he only showed you 2

I noticed that extra code too, he said it was the same as the first, which I find sketchy. I think I'm gonna move on and go see the Cummins I originally posted. Thankfully this time, I have options. There also aren't many dodges out here that catch my eye. We will see what happens and I'll keep this updated.

It's not uncommon to have the same code on the scanner twice. I'd believe him, but at the same time he could of showed you.

Just watch the Cummins is know for the lift pump to go bad on the 12&24 valve. To get a good one you are into about $800

brand new lift and injector pump already, 4K miles on the new auto trans, new afe intake, 3 piece exhaust, and new brake rotors and pads. It doesn’t have any check engine light, but it does have a brake light and abs light on. Owner said he just hasn’t gotten the time to reset the codes for that
anything I should ask him?
