Torque Converter Staying Locked and No Power in Overdrive
Hey everyone, new to this so bear with me.
I’ve got a 1996 5.2L 1500 with approx 300xxx on it.
The TC seems like it’s staying locked until it drops to second gear when slowing down. It drives great with overdrive off (other than constantly adjusting TV cable in hopes the O/D will work although I’ve read that it’s unrelated I’ve also heard that it is.)
The trans was just rebuilt less than 1500km ago and I had a torque converter built for 35’s and to play around with. On a somewhat unrelated note the trans shop wrote that it’s a 47re or 47rh (can’t remember off hand) but I thought that they only came with the A518 and 46re/rh series transmissions.
So far I have replaced the speed sensors on the trans, t-case, and rear differential, blown the trans cooler out, done 3 flushes, ordered a new tv cable, oil pan gasket, rocker cover gaskets, new yolks and u-joints, etc. The trans shops all said it’s doing what it’s supposed to however when I can’t drive over 80 like I could before my trans was on its way you, I disagree. I’ve cleaned the TB and made sure the sensors are functioning properly, cleaned grounds, looked for wiring problems but to no avail yet. While driving with O/D off if I turn it on it will engage and drop as it should. When I try to turn it off again it won’t unlock, until it naturally drops to second gear. I am maxing our at 2,100rpm with my foot to the floor and losing speed when going uphill.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated or similar problems

Are you see your adjusting the TV cable correctly? Mine also has no power but will kick down if I press the throttle or it drops enough in speed on it's own. I've never heard of a "locked up" torque converter but I could be wrong.
I have been looking to go down that route and I bored out the cat. O2 sensor turned the CEL on because it isn’t fluctuating or could’ve clogged now
)
I’ll give that a go after giving it a quick clean. Which non-fouler trick are you referring to? And any recommendations on the plenum? I’ve read up on a couple but would prefer to just do it once
