Default Tranny swapping out

I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 V8 magnum with a 4 speed tranny. What model of trucks and engines can I use to swap with it. I know it's a 46re. I have a 46 rh tranny now cause I was told it will work. I also, know that their is a manual governor for shifting due to the truck having a rpm gauge than the electronic governor that mine has. What can I do to make it work

Late 96 - 01 as long as you use your 98 harness (inside the tranny). An RH trans simply won't work you need an RE trans

2 or 4 wheel drive? It makes a difference.

Actually you could get the RH to work but the pcm would throw all kind of codes because it's not seeing a transmission. You might want to explain whats wrong with the one you have now. Might be easier to just fix the problem.

Well the tranny I got from a pick an pull yard. It came out of a 1997 V8 magnum 5.2 liter 2 wheel drive. That 1997 looks identical to my 1998 V8 magnum 5.9 liter 2 wheel drive truck. I got both transmissions out and side by side. Everything looks the same except for a sensor is on the back of the 5.2 liter tranny. That added sensor is a governor sensor correct?? Also the numbers on the bell housing of the 98 says 064-4. The numbers on the 97 says 064-3.

That sensor at the back of the trans is the vehicle speed sensor. The 98 and up trucks didn't use it, and instead, got vehicle speed information from the rear wheel speed sensor, on top of the rear diff. You can install the trans, and it will work. There just won't be a connector for the VSS. You don't need it anyway.

Use the T/C that came with the trans. If your original trans failed, the t/c is going to be full of crap, which you DON'T want to introduce into your 'new' trans.
