Does your parking brake work? I used that when I didn't have the impact to loosen the pinion nut.
Also, you could've just pull the rear section of the driveshaft out, without removing the whole assembly. Slip joint is rather tight because of the boot, but it comes off with little persuation.

Thanks Heikllm, I got the shaft out yesterday fortunately. The parking brake does work but I dont think it would hold up to the amount of force that will be required to get that nut off. Manual says 210lbs minimum. I think the most Ive had to deal with was 170# on the front axle nuts when I did my front axle seals and hubs. And that was brutal, if I remember right I was jumping up and down on jack handle that I had slid over the 3/4" breaker bar to get that one loose ! It snowed 17" overnight and is still coming down hard plus there is 40 mph wind gusts so I wont be getting much done today. Just gonna see about hunting down the tool to hold that yoke. My pipe wrench is way too small for that job.

Buy a bigger pipe wrench. They are ALWAYS useful.

I would say an impact has more uses than a pipe wrench.

If you already have an air compressor, yeah, I would agree. (That's why I have a couple different impact wrenches.....) There are electric ones out there as well, but, finding one that's mean enough to do the job, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, ain't easy. I would have a hard time justifying the expense for a tool that I wasn't going to use regularly..... (though, an impact tends to be one of those tools that you wonder how you ever got along without it. )

Harbor Freight Earthquake XT is suppose to be good. A YouTuber took it apart and it seemed that it's made in the same plant as Snap On and Milwaukee impact guns. It's boosting 1000lbs of breakaway torque

Yeah, I bought one of those. I have yet to encounter a bolt that it can't break loose. (or off.....)

Interesting you mention this. So I went to the auto parts store this morning. One of the really knowledgeable guys was there. I explained what I am trying to do, specifically the pinion shaft nut. He recommended that I check out out local Home Deep **** for those electric ones. I had no Idea that they were capable of putting out the torque that some of these are boasting. I almost lost my breakfast when he told me that some of them are putting out 1000lbs ! Those one (milwaukee) at our HD were priced at 250, without battery or charger ! Quality does cost. I am strongly considering buying the ryobi 1/2. Says it puts out 300 lbs. Should be enough to get that nut off...I think ? Mostly considering going that route since I already have a Ryobi 18v and charger. Priced at 140. Not too bad, but wasnt planning on dropping that kind of money on a tool at the moment. HOWEVER I can see justifying it. I do wrench quite a bit, between my truck and boat , and my wifes car it would probaly see a fair amount of use.
I did buy the u joint but I am not sure its the correct one. These guys havent done me wrong before but the yolk Im buying (yukon 41001) specifies joint # 7260. This one is a Spicer 5-1309x . Ill investigate this further. I also rented the press tool for the joint, and bought the inch/ft torque wrench and adapter. While I was at HD I picked up the biggest pipe wrench I could find, a 20"er I figure I will need it. Looks fully capable of holding the yolk. Im planning on getting after the Joint tomorrow. Cant really do much more til I get the new yoke in the mail next week. Thanks again fellas

I usually just tap on the back lightly with a hammer and it should come off.
