Thumbs up 96 5.9L Parts identification, not in Haynes

I am trying to see why my truck is stalling after acceleration, and I was going to replace the ECT and I found two connectors which my Haynes manual does not identify.

1. Is a connector i found near thermostat housing, I stretched it across its radius to see if there is something unplugged. I found nothing, I have an alternator from car quest that previous own installed, thinking it might been something deleted from the replacement. Any help?

2. This is a connector I found out of place. I think it goes through the intake into the block itself, thus possible knock sensor. Haynes did not identify this as well. If you look in the background you can see the top of the nut it fits into. Seems to have corrosion around it as well. Any help?

3-4. I was going to check my spark plugs when I found this shroud around my ignition wire caps, the first is beat up, the other two behind it are nice. The other five have nothing. Haynes does not help here either. I was wondering if I should go buy the other five protection (actually 6 for the warped one), and also how do you take it out?

5. Finally, I found this bolted to the frame. 5.9L does not have a filter. My fuel sending unit is down, so i have to drop the tank to replace, but found this bulky thing attached to the evap purge device. It is not listed in Haynes either. Connections are a bit ruff as well. Identification anyone?

Thx in advance for the hlep

Not sure what this connector goes to, nothing is unplugged within its radius. Any know?

Looking for ECT I found this unplugged. Seems to have calcium build up, in the background of the sensor you can see the insert spot. Is it a knock sensor?

Another picture of the possible knock sensor

When taking out the plugs, i found this shroud around the ignition cap. I am sure this is a guard from the heat, from the exhaust mani, but I wanted to be sure, since the other five do not have it

Pictures of intact heat shields

I was tracing a line to my gas tank, and found this mounted. Looks like a filter, but the 5.9L has not this, it clearly goes into the gas tank, not sure what it is. Any help?

Them two plugs are for two engine coolant temp sensors. The two wire one is for the PCM and the one wire one is for the gauge. They should be down by the thermostat housing.

Those heat shields do not need replaced (don't think you can buy them) and you can remove them by just attaching vise grips to them and pulling them out.

That is for the emissions. It should be there.

Yep, the fanatic is correct. I am actually surprised your truck even runs...... The two wire temp sensor is cleverly concealed when everything is together...... Rather a pain to get to. I *think* if you move the a/c compressor out of the way, it'll be easier to see. The other one, the sensor simply fell apart. My guess is your temp gauge ain't real accurate.

The black feller there is the vapor canister. It's part of the emissions system, and does indeed need to be there.

No knock sensors on these engines. I really wish there was.

Update: I have taken everything off and am wondering what I should do next.

I could not find the other sensor for that connector, I will take a picture of the intake again and so hopefully one of you can tell me where it is. For now here are the pictures of what I am dealing with. Thoughts? I am going to replace the gasket for the plenum, and obviously all the bolts and related gaskets with what I have removed.

Some thoughts:

1. Water ports on intake and block are very rusty
2. Previous owner did flush the radiator, but radiator is very rusty as well
3. Has a new water pump already, gasket is very poorly done, same with thermostat housing as well
4. I am not sure, but when I removed the intake, some anitfreeze got on th top where the valves are and there is a small hole in the center of the block where does that go?
5. Distributor is right there, but the last one I changed was in the front and easy to spin to get rpms right, I can't run the engine after i put it in, without putting it all back together. Not sure if I should go ahead and change it, put it all back together, or reverse that, put together then change it.
6. Should I take the valve covers off and re-seat them or adjust them since I am here?

Here are the pictures:

Intake and Top of Engine

Fuel Rail With Injectors

Bottom of Throttle Body, Bent Fan, Intake, only one temperature sensor is broken, the second on the top had a connector, still do not know where other plug went. Also the engine with new water pump by previous owner, gasket looks ruff, should I do something about it?

Wink Intake Sensors One Had Connector, other Didn't

I have circled the two sensors on the intake, the one on the bottom is as previously stated, broken. The other on the top had a connector on it, therefore there still leaves another connector of the two wire sort.

Alternator was free of lost connectors, A/C compressor had all of its connectors, throttle body had all of its connectors as well.

Circled

I can see the one sensor there next to the hole for the thermostat. There *should* be another hole, just behind the thermostat housing there.

Is the sensor that is there, one wire, or two wire?

Broken one had one wire. I did not see another whole for another sensor by the thermo housing.

That intake is the wrong one for that truck. Previous owner must have replaced it...
