Used PCM
If it whines about it, I wonder if you could just have it re-flashed with a tune that knows about 4x4.... Gonna have to get the vin flashed anyway....... Might chat with the dealer, and see if they will flash the correct programming to it?
If the dealer will work with you. I called them about setting fuel sync (when I thought my motor would be done and my scan tool was getting fixed) and they said they don't have a tool that will do it and the techs don't know how anymore. Smh
I suppose these guys ARE pushing 20 years old......... Some of the 2nd gen trucks are likely older than the guys working on them.........
April of 2001. I guess I’ll put it in when it gets here and we’ll see what it thinks of it. Definitely agree about the dealership, probably would have be best luck at a shop as far as them knowing what to do with it.
So, the new/used pcm is in. Truck started, ran fine, left it to idle for a few minutes. Check engine light comes on for P0136, O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2. So I cleared it thinking it might just be because it’s adjusting to being in an entirely different truck (although technically it should be learning everything since it hasn’t had power in a while). About a minute after clearing, it began to start idling choppy. To the point where it only idles at 200rpm, fairly unresponsive to throttle input until you give it more than half throttle then it revs up fine. So I shut it off, start it again, runs great, idles fine. Drives great, 4x4 light works as expected, no abs or airbag lights. Check engine light is on again, it has P0139 again and now P0152, O2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1 high voltage. Don’t federal emission trucks only have bank 1 sensor 1 and 2? Did the junk yard send a California emissions pcm and it ran like garbage trying to get a reading from the second pre-cat sensor that doesn’t exist? I’m assuming it runs fine now because it’s ignoring it. I had to specifically select federal emissions on car-part to get the list I got, so it’s definitely not on me. And the tag attached to the pcm said 2005 dodge too, I suppose I will give them a call tomorrow. Fuelsys1 and fuelsys2 on the scanner say OL_fault so I’m assuming the truck is being forced to open loop and ignoring sensor input. Fuel trims read 0% for each bank sensor 1 and 99.2% for each bank sensor 2. Bank one sensor 1 and sensor 2 appear to be reading a normal voltage. Bank 2 sensor 1 and 2 (which I don’t think exist) are stuck at 1.0 volts.
The truck did have P0601 on the previous pcm for years and years, but ran fine and went into closed loop like it was supposed to and all of the sensors on the scanner read normally/as expected, so we’ve just let that go until it started the intermittent no bus issues now. I’m betting P0136 for bank 1 sensor 2 has been an issue for a while and the old pcm couldn’t tell, and sensor 2 doesn’t affect how it runs.

Yeah, Should only be one front, one rear O2 on your truck, unless you have the heavy duty engine.... (which I don't think ever came in a 1500......) Call the company, see what they say.
They are sending another, said it must’ve been inventoried wrong. Not sure what the mileage will be on the replacement but oh well, 6 month warranty. At least this told us it’ll work without the vin matching i suppose.
It’s just a junk yard pcm that came from a truck that was running with no codes present, so they just pull it and ship it. Comes out to a little less than half of what a programmed reman was when I was looking.
