They actually make locking access door something similar you might see on an rv. Just a simple like 8" x8" or something like that. Mine would be under my toolbox and through the bed liner so I'm not worried about it.

I do have another question. So when I tap on tank or top of pump I can get it to function but as soon as I turn key off and try it again no priming and no pump again. So basically the pump is bad right?

yea that’s a telltale sign of 1 of 2 things. Either the pump is bad and your basically knocking some sense into it. OR the filter sock is clogged and your knocking whatever’s inside of it loose then it’s resettling and clogging it again. Likely the first thing but I’ve actually had both happen.

when you changed it last was the filter sock dirty? Whenever you change it’s always a good idea to take a peek inside the tank and see if there anything worth flushing out. You’d be surprised as some of the stuff one can find inside a gas tank...

Yes it was the whole assembly. Pump filter sending unit. The whole thing. As far as pump not priming or functioning even if the filter was plugged you should still hear it try to prime right?

I didn't really go cheap on it. It cost me $150. I know they can be alot more for different brands.

Packwood is correct. Time to change your pump. Again.... Maybe you just had some bad luck, or maybe it's just a crap pump. You can likely warranty your out, since you changed it in recent memory.... or, see if you can get your money back, and buy a delphi, or denso pump.

Ya they don't make things to last anymore. Since I know my old pump is still good it actually had only been in the pickup for a year. Only reason why I put a new one in was because it wasn't reading right on fuel gauge and for some reason the #8 fuse blew and I didn't know that until I installed new pump and it didn't work in the beginning. I changed fuse and viola. I also learned that pump needs to be clocked a certain way in the tank. Float was hanging up on side of tank so it only read half tank when full. Mind you I didn't install the other pump. I kept my other pump I replaced just for ****s and giggles and am glad I did. It works just fine when I bench tested it. So I will put that back in and either exchange or get refund. Wouldn't mind having a spare pump tho just in case

Ok people have been great help here so let's see if we can figure this out. Changed fuel pump the other day. Plugged it in turned key on and it primed. Tried to start a few minutes later and nothing. Put all new fuses and relays in the PDC. Nothing. I've checked voltage all good. Can hear a relay click but it's not for the fuel system. According to diagrams for my PDC there are 4 Larger relays 1)ABS 2)ASD 3)starter an 4)fuel system relay. Today I pulled what I thought was fuel system relay I think is actually the ASD. Wouldn't crank. Fuse is 20 amp and brand new. I have power to all the #30 pins on relay. Ive tried jumping #30 and #87 pins and nothing. My understanding is #9 fuse in interior fuse panel is for ecm fuel pump ect. It's good. Any advice would be great. I've been down 5 days now and ready to start doing some backwoods wiring
