Likely need to change the distributor cap and rotor as well. Is the check engine lite on? Flashing? Anything at all?

Welcome to DF! Moving this to 2nd gen ram section for ya.

I'm I'm not sure what you mean by how bad but it's charging about 16 volts or so

Ok, that's too high. And that's the new alternator? Any warranty on it?

If you have a volt meter, might not be a bad idea to test at the battery as well, and see what voltage the battery is seeing. The gauges aren't known for being incredibly accurate......

I bought the truck for a hundred bucks 5 years ago and this is the only problem I've had with it I changed the alternator and the battery but this problem is making me crazy I was just told by a buddy of mine that it could be my fuel pump to is that accurate or one of the Jets in the carburetor

Fuel injected, so, no carb.

The overvoltage can cause all sorts of fun problems, including burning up fuel pumps. If replacing the alternator doesn't solve it, (might just wanna take it in, and have it tested... see if it works properly on a test bench.) then its likely the voltage regulator. Which, unfortunately, is in the PCM..... There IS a method to bypass it with an old style external regulator, but, that requires doing some wiring. You comfy doing that kind of thing?
