What about replacing the box with a used 2500 diesel box or same year model or around 97-03 box off a 1500 are they all the same would you trust one off a parted out truck?

I would check it first...... It likely won't have the issues yours does, but, it may have other issues that make it undesirable as well. I think the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks used the 18:1 box, whereas the 1500s used the 15:1 box.

That said, when you have the box in your hands, you *might* be able to reduce/eliminate any slop in the box by doing the adjustments outline in the service manual.

The pump either works or doesn't. If it is failing it will whine. If it's whining it's either low on fluid or going bad. If it's not whining then you are good. But there is an exception to every rule
