I never owned a V10 but I know they are practically unkillable but some parts are getting hard to find.

I own 12 second gen totals and they are a mix of 1500s and 2500s. My biggest accomplishment so far is gasser swapping the two diesels. I am currently building a 6.4L Hemi to swap into my 2001 2500 diesel I gasser swapped. It should make around 900hp and 1000lbs-ft when it's done. Then if that's not enough I'll turbo it.

I always wanted a V10 but they don't come around for sale around me. I never paid more than $1000 for any of my second gens. The one V10 that was for sale around me they wanted way to much. I think it was around $18K

I've had mine for 3 or 4 years now..... So far, I haven't had any issues with it. I get some lifter rattle at startup, and sometimes when it holds a gear too long, but, it hasn't gotten better or worse while I have owned it. The engine runs smooth as glass, the trans shifts reasonably well. Just michigan winters are taking their tool. (even though it was rust-proofed.....) I love my truck. Gas mileage is terrible, but, I knew that when I bought it. Don't drive a lot, or very far, so, just not that much of an issue. I HAVE taken it on a couple long trips, and it was fine. Not the most comfortable for long drives though..... the seats could use some work.

Yep, diesel prices around here are absolutely stupid. If it says Cummins on the side, its 10 grand minimum..... even if it's a rusted out hulk, with 400 thousand miles...... The wife can't handle diesel exhaust though, does a real number on her lungs..... so, can't have one anyway.
