Just got one this weekend (first in six years).....74 in a 45. Deputy Dog was great too - I was twenty miles outside of Kingman, Arizona, on a two lane black-top in the middle of the desert. Told him I had no idea the speed limit was 45 that far out of town (apparently 45 mph for aroung 40 miles) and he responded, "that's why we have those little signs."

What an a-hole.........a $200.00 ticket and he didn't cut me any slack on my speed. Thank God for Traffic School. Ho f'in Ho!!!

First Ticket? Party like a Rock Star!! Time for the Way Back Machine to start up. My first ticket was 1983 right in front of my high school after class. All the other kids saw me get pulled over. Ironically, in my first Dodge (68 Coronet). Oh yeah!! I wasn't happy then, but I look back on it now with affection. Have I slowed down? Oh HELL NO!!!! hehehehe Only from Old age now, not my driving.

There is actually a very scientific reason for why American vehichles "chirp" more. We drive on the right hand side of the road, which means when we turn into traffic, we turn right. Well, which wheel is generally given more power on a rear-wheel drive vehichle? Exactly, the right! OK, so all the power is going to the wheel on the inside of the turn, which has the least amount of travel required as it is closest to the center of the turn. Also, centrifigal force is going to pull all of the weight away from the center of the circle, therefore, less traction will be available for the right rear wheel, which just happens to be getting all the power... Don't believe me, test it! Try flooring it in a right hand turn. The tires will easily spin and "chirp." Do the same, this time turning left. You may still spin your tires, but not as easily or as quickly.

Also, in movies, they use specially coated tires, and even old bias-plys to do stunts. Bias-plys are notorious for spinning and smoking easily compared to today's tires. Also, brand helps that. For example; Goodyear uses a very hard rubber (which is why they last so long) that does not "burn" much rubber when you do a burnout. The also do not squeal as easily. Rather, they hiss. Michelin uses a softer rubber (the reason for the smooth, quiet ride) that easily shreds into small pieces and leaves a nice black trail on the pavement, and they do sqeal easily. (compare a Goodyear burnout to a Michelin: the Goods will leave little or no rubber [you may even see a clean or "white" spot on the pavement], and a Michelin will leave lots of black with small rubber shavings all over. (even on your fenders, hehe!)

You may sound like a smartass if you tell the judge that, but you cannot deny physics, and they should cut you some slack for that. Also, being a Texas resident, I can tell you that DPS is usually pretty leaniant, but when they have riders or are just pissy, they will easily through the book at you. (especially riders. Texans have big egos, and we love to show off. And if you had a chance to act all tough and macho in front of someone, wouldn't you too? Just watch out...) Also, a word of warning, it is a State Law that you must slow down to 20 under the posted limit and move as far away from the vehicle as possible when you pass a trooper with his lights on on the side of the road. they do that to protect the officers from hit and runs and to keep them safer. the law is not very strictly enforced, but it is still the law, and the fine is a minimum of $250...
