That's pretty high for a 5.9..... Noise could be lifters, exhaust leak, or timing chain slap. Fixed the plenum yet??

No but I'm pretty sure the plenum needs to be replaced I may just wait a bit and save up to do all those possibilities at once. Lifters, timing chain and plenum. Maybe even add some roller rockers... idk. This noise isn't bad enough for me to have to do it asap so I may slowly gather some parts. As far as I can tell the bottom end seems to be in great shape. Good oil pressure and no noise that I can tell. Hopefully I can get a lot more miles out of it

Yeah, the bottom end on these engines seem to be pretty much indestructible.

That's what I've heard. I feel pretty confident that I could do a top end rebuild and be pretty good. Maybe a new cam too at some point

Rings likely wouldn't hurt.... They don't really wear, they just get clogged up with carbon/other stuff, and stop working efficiently. Crosshatch is still visible on the cylinder walls.

Yea that is one thing I may consider. May also get remanufactured heads or afyermarket because I'm sure if I pull mine they are going to be cracked. If I do replace the lifter is there anything special I should do when I first start it as like a break in?

When did the noise start? What weight oil do you have in it?

Not sure as I've only owned it for a few months. Only reason I heard it in the first place js because I was revving the truck when I was under the hood. I do hear what I think is a slight exhaust tick when driving so maybe they are related. Right now I am running 10w-30 but will be switching to 5w-40 for winter. Also I am almost 100% positive my plenum is leaking because I am using oil pretty quickly. Although some of my using problem is also a decent leak. I am thinking maybe later down the road I tackle the plenum and replace the lifters at the same time.

Going to a lighter weight oil will make lifter noise louder, and increase oil consumption. (with a blown plenum) Stick with the 10W30 oil. Dino, or synthetic doesn't really matter, though, if you are going through oil, dino oil is cheaper.

With north of 200K miles, oil consumption doesn't really come as a surprise.

yea my hope is when I replace my plenum and fix my rear main seal my using oil problem goes away. At least mostly. As far as the noise I may just end up replacing my lifters when I do my plenum. Although I haven't confirmed it's lifters if they have 203k miles it can't hurt. It may just be an exhaust leak... I hope.
