Talking OBD1 MOPAR Performance PCM

Hello all

I am really wanting to switch to a performance PCM since I m about to do a cam swap and upgrade the plenum.

I have been having one hell of a time trying to find one if anybody can help me find one or know of a place to get a used one that will not cost me an arm and a leg that would be great.

THank you all for your time with this.

There’s not much for obd1…..you can convert to obd2 if you want to go that far……if I remember correctly you can do a stand alone tune?

You are in CA, Do they still require emissions testing on old vehicles?

I would like to think that even in california, they would recognize that going from OBDI, to OBDII, would be a GOOD thing.

Changing over wouldn't really be that hard either. Trouble comes from the trans. If it's a manual trans, then no issue, and automatic though..... is a whole 'nother kettle o' fish. Although, there is at least one member here with a 96 truck, which should be OBDII, with an RH trans......

Hello

so yes California still required to get smog done every two years with this truck but as long as I have no lights on and it will pass the sniffer test I should be ok.

I would love to go stand alone but I have no clue how to tune and the few shops I have called only do obd2 stuff so I am SOL.

I was hoping to see if you all put out your feelers to see if anybody has the performance PCM for my truck. I found two on eBay but they want 600+ for them and they are used and I don’t to have it for a week and then it go out and I am screwed. But don’t mind spending some money on it to get the PCM I need and want.

thank you all

Trouble is, Mopar stopped makin' 'em quite some time ago, so the used market is all you get. Finding one at all is a stroke of luck.

Ya I am finding out that these PCM's are liking finding gold.

if anybody sees one or even hears of one can they shoot me a message I really want one.

With all this being said how are would it be to get my PCM reflashed from someone I have tried the two different people that I have seen on the forums but they seem not to want to get back to me.

Or should I just give up and just try for a really good stock build or do a Hemi swap?

In my honest opinion there’s much you can do to boost your engine without a tune/pcm

fixing plenum, headers/exhaust, ignition, re gear axles, cam, 1.7 rockers pushrods, have heads check/ get new ones as stocks are known to crack when added power is put in….there’s a few grand to get you started

or just go all out….408 stroker

Can't re-flash OBDI PCM's. They aren't set up for it. There used to be folks that would re-program them, but, that was a 'send it in' type of deal. They had to remove/replace chips in the PCM. Not something your typical home mechanic is going to be up for.

Might want to speak with folks at BG Performance, as they used to work with OBD1 PCMs a while ago - http://www.bgperformance.com/

You can also check with these folks for possible OBD1 options - http://utawesomeperformance.com/index.html

Just a warning, sticking with the OBD1 platform will likely be more costly, no matter which way you go.
