Cool, man! Would love to read it whenever you get around to it. For me, I'm a Magnum fan. Mine's still strong and reliable at 23 years old and over 280,000 miles. No need to put a whole new drivetrain in just yet. But it still would be fun to read about the swap!

Mine I decided to do a Hellcat halfway through but I have a video of it running with a 5.7L Hemi. Honestly there are a lot of variables. Easiest way would be get a pre made harness ($3500 with Hemi pedal, and PCM). I am going to do a write up this summer once I get the few bugs worked out. I built my own harness though. Overall not for everybody.
So you’re telling me, all I need to do is get a junker 3rd gen and the engine and trans will fit with minimal modifications? Please tell me that’s what you’re saying!

Doing a hemi swap into the 2nd gen ram would be easier with a junker 3rd/4th gen, but isn't necessary. You can grab a earlier 5.7 hemi 03-08 pretty cheap these days at your favorite u-pick hole. The 46re can be built up (using 47/48re parts) to handle any power that the hemi can dish out, probably better at handling the big power than the 545rfe. I was going to run a fast efi controller/msd ignition (run a drive by cable set-up), as I already own the stuff. If you go the junker route, you might end up needing the complete wiring harness/dash to make stuff work right.

Basically yes. Biggest issue is the wiring and the easiest one to swap is an 03 nexus the pedal assembly is simpler.

Don't need the dash or dash harness you can do a piggy back, unless you have a late 01 1500 or 02 2500.

this should be the last question, driveshafts both front and rear, do I need custom ones or will the factory ones work

Will depend on what transmission you use.

Also interested and following. I debated this route with my 98 as i found a completed 5.7/545 on craiglists with wiring and computers cheap earlier this year, but after some short googling I kinda decided against it. I have to much sunk in the 5.2 to change directions but maybe in the future.

course if the rumors are true i see hemi prices sky rocketing more in a couple years.....

No. Also remember that the ZF will need the torque curve programed into it. So the truck will need to have the engine dynoed first then the truck taken to a shop to program the transmission.

thank you so much for the information, I expected to need a tune because I’m planning on using a Holley EFI system
