Cranks, no spark, no power to coil, fuel gauge won't read, scan tool won't link
Problem started when truck wouldn't start if it sat for 3 days or more. Put new battery and alternator in. Ran for a while with same starting issue but now will not fire up when jumping it. Engine cranks oh, there is no spark, no power going to coil, fuel gauge doesn't read with power on, OBD scanner says it can't link. I'm not very knowledgeable with electrical troubleshooting. Any help is appreciated.
Sounds like some power or ground issue. Maybe PCM but I would not yet condemn it. You didn't say what year the truck is but basically there is a fused permanent power feed from the PDC that also includes a joint connector in the PDC. Then there is ignition power which goes through a fuse in the inside panel. Lastly there is a ground connection at the front of the engine. Pin 5 at the DLC should have almost zero resistance to chassis ground.
Does any dash lights or gauges work when you turn the key in the on position? If i remember back on the 2nd gen trucks there was a wiring recall for the ignition switch. Pull the cover down around the ignition switch a smell if you have any burned wires.
@DerTruck oops my bad. It's a 98 Laramie 4x4. Thanks for the info provided but I'm not sure what to do with that. @master tech All the Dash lights come on for a sec when I turn the power on then they all turn back off. I inspected the wiring under the driver side dash. I did not find any burnt wires but a few things stood out. There is one wire that goes to the ignition switch that is cut. There are also some cut wires that run to a remote start module and some switches that were wired in. That's what explain why the remote start has never worked but the truck has always ran with this. wiring.
Thanks @master tech Seems like a logical starting point. It was running for a year with the wires like this though so unless something popped out do you think this is likely the source of the issue?
