Yours doesn't look to be in too bad of shape, maybe scope it out a bit before you start dinkin' with it. Worst case, unscrew it from the radiator, and leave in in the cooler line. (don't know if coolant will leak out doing that though....) My 96 looked worse than that when I did the delete on it. I didn't have any problems.

Easiest way is just drill out the check ball, and call it a day. I just used some oil-rated trans line (rubber hose) from the parts store, and a couple clamps. Worked fine.

When you are drilling out the valve, start using a drill that's a little bigger as the hole and keep stepping up a size. As you go you'll see a metal retaining disc. This is a part of the check valve. Once this is free the spring and ball will come out with the disc. 5 minutes to bore out and free if you have a drill index.
