Default 97 Ram 1500 4x4 5.2 L automatic delayed shifting

I have a 97 1500 automatic that doesn't shift in each gear until between 2,500 and 3000 RPMs. It doesn't matter if I'm being easy on it or getting into it that's where it shifts for every gear. I don't think this makes a difference but the gear shift indicator is one off also. If it shows it's in Drive it's actually in neutral. Can anyone Lead Me in the direction of what may be going wrong with it so that I know what it's going to take to get it fixed because I don't know anything about Transmissions.

Make sure the TV cable (throttle valve) is adjusted properly, and moves freely. Sounds like yours is binding up.

I stopped by my mechanics yesterday to have him adjust that but he made one little adjustment after he popped the clip loose and crawled under the truck to find it because it shot off like a spring when it came loose but he told me to let him know if that made any difference or not so when he goes to change the transmission pan gasket I'm going to have him do it some more to see if it makes a difference or not. I don't know if that clip shooting off of there when it came loose distracted him to where he didn't pay attention to where the cable was or how much he moved it to the point that maybe by the time he was done digging around looking for the clip he really didn't even get an adjustment done but that was the first thing out of his mouth was that that cable probably needed adjusted so hopefully he will be able to adjust that some more when he replaces that gasket. However, I still wanted to post the question to see what else could be causing it if it wasn't the cable needing tightened/adjusted.

Cable is where I would start. If that doesn't seem to make any difference, (and the cable is actually working as it should....) might go after electronics next.

By electronics are you talking about like the TPS and speed output sensor because I know somewhere else I had read a couple comments about those but I didn't know how much likeliness there would be to that being that I don't know much about transmissions

Output speed sensor wouldn't be a bad idea, and it's easy too. But, I was more referring to the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. Changing those out with the borg warner heavy duty set solved a lot of ills on my trans.

I just edited my original post and that I've ever heard this doesn't make any difference towards this issue but this shift indicator is off as well. If it says the truck is in drive it is actually in neutral.

That's just a minor adjustment under the steering column... assuming the linkage is in good shape.
