Have a 1996 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.9. Torque converter not locking up. Transmission shifts fine. Have replaced tcc and external transmission plug thinking it mite be bad. Still not working. Any ideas or help would be appreciated....
Is it possible you ARE getting it, just not noticing? TCC engage is pretty subtle, and there just ain't much of an RPM drop either. The PCM just grounds the solenoid circuit for TCC, if it sees the return voltage on the ground wire, and sees the requisite RPM drop, it is perfectly happy. If it doesn't see one or the other, it will set a code.....
It is running 3000 rpm at 50 which used to be 1800. I can tell overdrive is working. Cause it has the rpm difference when button is pushed. It has 4 :56 gears in front and rear so it's turning more rpms then stock
TCC isn't going to give you a 1200 RPM drop when it engages..... if it drops 200 or so, that would be normal. How much of a change do you see when you hit the O/D off button?
