Default Transmission R/I Need TC help.

Hey folks. So got my truck back over the mountains. At highway speeds everything seems fine but by the time the drive was over, truck could barely crawl up a hill from a stop. Doesn't slip but starts bucking or skipping / shuddering and etc.

So i located a couple transmissions and now i realize i should really replace the torque converter due to the debris i previously found in pan. This debris is also why im swapping the tranny instead of just trying a T/c

So for a 1994 dodge ram 2500 5.9 v8 gas, what is the best bang for my buck on a T/c? Im seeing prices from $1500usd to $85usd. I tow a lot and my truck is heavy.

What is the best company to order from on such a heavy and important item? Is reman worth it? Etc etc

tyia!

Contact the folks at Precision of New Hampton - https://gopnh.com/ - they were mentioned in MonteC's transmission corner back when he used to frequent this board - https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...info-only.html

When I had my 46RE fully rebuilt, I sent them my old converter (they want your core) and they sent me a heavy duty towing converter. I opted for the billet front cover and the lower stahl speed for towing. Couldn't be happier with it and no issues to-date.

This was about 2 years ago. I seem to recall about $400-ish with the core, but that price has likely changed since then. You should contact them by phone and they can provide you a quote. I spoke with Kara Pflughaupt. I believe the part number was 5444HD. Here is the information from their web site.

The converter is actually listed under the Dodge 47RE category...

Oops. Since you have a 1994 Ram 2500, the transmission should be a 46RH. It should be cheaper to build that transmission than the 46RE since it doesn't have the more extensive electronics of the 46RE. The converter choices are here for the 46RH

They have several options. Best to call them to see what they can work out for you.

If i can get one in for $500 cdn if be happy but i dont want to spend close to $1200 landed for an unbuilt swap-in.

I may just even try to get mine flushed for now and then go for gold when i have a rebuilt unit ready. Lol

Flushing the t/c never works. If you are going to drop in another trans, just get one of the cheap torque converters from your local parts store.

I bought mine for the truck and a BMW X5 at O'Reilly's. Watch what it's stall speed is. I got a 2200 mid/stall speed, it's okay for my build. You might want something different with a low stall speed,1600-1900.

Since I tow a fair bit, I opted for a 1200 stall speed. When used with a truck doing a good bit of towing, a lower stall speed tends to be better, since more work/effort is being put on the motor.
