Perhaps the motor in his truck came out of a Dakota. That certainly looks like the water pump he's talking about. The motor in my '96 Ram came out of a later model Dakota, but used the pressed-on pulley on the water pump.. Nice find from your research.
So I absolutely swear a pump of this style used to come up in water pump listings for the Rams. But now I can't find that to occur anywhere, so I could be mistaken.
With each passing year the gap between reality and my memory grows...
I got lucky and stumbled on this thread from a web search. The OP seems to indicate his '94 Ram came with the bolt-on pulley style. And it sounds like if you need JUST the pulley, they're rare: https://www.allpar.com/threads/94-ra...pulley.148805/
96 indeed came with a bolt on w/p pulley. I still have the pulley off my org pump. Been a long time since I've been able to get a org style pump.
All the Magnum engines I've worked on had the pressed on pulley. The pre-Magnum engines used the old style 4 bolt pulley that has been used on cars going back to the teens, possibly before that. I just replaced the water pups on my '96 Ram 1500 with the 5.9 and my '97 Dakota with the 3.9. The holes in the 3.9 pulley are a little smaller (6mm rather than 1/4 inch) but the pumps look the same.

I can 100% say the early Maggys had a bolt on wp pulley., kinda like the two piece hb. I bought my truck new 96, other than one other mech I'm the only one to work on her. ive lost count how many wp she gone through over her decades. So yes they did come with a bolt on pulley at one time.
The water pump and everything else is original. The truck was bought new. I'll try to get pics if I can get home before it's dark. I hate the short days of winter.
Thanks for those photos. Learn something new regularly. I wonder if the pressed-on pulley would fit that style water pump? I noticed several have 4 holes that may line up with those bolt holes..
The 4 holes in the pressed on pulley don't have threads and are also spaced differently than the holes on my water pump so the under-drive pulleys I have won't work I guess.
See if you can get the oe part # off that if it's original. This is the first one i have seen like it. My guess is the factory changed the design to save a few bucks.
