All the pumps are the same, 2 piece pump with a pulley. These part numbers were found in the factory parts book. The parts books and manuals are free to download in the diy area.

Can this coolant be used in our trucks? Kinda on a budget so trying to do everything cheap as I can. It says it can be used in all vehicles but wondering if it is compatible with our older engines.

 

It looks like plain old ethylene glycol. It's been used since the 1960's so it should work fine. Keep in mind it IS poisonous so keep it away from Spot and Fluffy.

Get NON 50/50! Why pay for water? Look for antifreeze considerate and mix it yourself. You can find this at most Walmarts.

 

got the pump off and found this silicone looking stuff in the slot. Any idea what it is?

 

That looks like who ever worked on it used RTV only instead of a gasket. I prefer to use a gasket with a skim of RTV as a sealant as well as on the long bolts that go into the engine block. Looking at the inside of that pump, make sure you flush the cooling system well.

 

There was a gasket on the pump. Ok, so looking at the rust on the pump got me inspecting stuff. It looks like rust is from the hoses with the metal reinforcement deteriorating. I'm changing those hoses. My thermostat housing is rusting as well along with thermostat looking like a rust barnacle. You can't even tell it's a thermostat anymore. So I'm ordering a new dorman housing and a fel-pro gasket. What brand 180 thermostat would you guys recommend? I heard stant is now owned by moto rad so I'm not sure about them anymore.

 

Stant superstat. Stick with the 195 stat. That's what the PCM expects.

 

You don't want 180, you want a 195 thermostat. You have fuel injection and that doesn't use a choke plate. The computer goes into "open loop" mode. It injects extra fuel to warm the engine up. If you run a 180, it will stay in 180 and waste fuel. Eventually you'll burn your catalytic converter up and melt the inside.

One brand you do NOT want is a Failsafe thermostat. Every single one I've worked with either was failed to begin with or failed soon after installation. They are designed too fail open. That part works. I actually put one in a Ford Taurus once and it failed on the initial warm up checking for leaks. At least on the V-6 in the Taurus it's fairly easy to get to.
