Swapping a Dana 70 drum brakes to Dana 80 disks brake on a 2000

Make sure the rear you get came out of a 2nd gen truck. If not, the spring perches may not be in the proper location and new spring perches and grinding/welding may be in order.

From TorqueKing up in Billings: "Dodge used Dana 80 Rear Axles in Ram 2500 models equipped with Cummins Diesel or gas V10 engines and manual transmissions. The Dana 80 was also used on ALL Ram 3500 trucks regardless of engine or transmission."
They sell disc brake components for SRW/DRW Dana 80 axles, 2001-2002: https://torqueking.com/category/brakes-1994-2002-ram-dana-80/.

This page is especially useful, lists ( apparently) all possible combinations.

Poking around O'Reilly's site (which is where I've had problems before), they list a D80 wheel seal which does seem to be for drums as they also list 13x3.5" brakes (these are dims you'd only give for a drum) with 3" ID
However the "D70" seal has a 2-7/8" ID, which is what our disc'ed '02 uses. It definitely has a D80 chunk but the spindle is smaller.

I'm not saying this was how they were offered as I don't know 100% -- merely that if so it's another form of identification.
