2001 dodge ram 1500 auto to manual swap
Hello! I’m in a little tough situation and need advice… I’ll give the whole story so there’s no unknown information. I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 slt Laramie extended cab 2wd and i decided to put my built transmission in my other dodge for a build and wanted to put a 5 speed in mine. Well I did my own research and thought I was ready but apparently not.. I went and bought a getrag 5 speed and was told it came out of the same truck but it was a single cab… I got my transmission out and put that one in cut my floor board, grounded my neutral safety switch I got a 2 piece drive shaft and got it in and made my own cross member for the carin bearing. I got my pedals in and everything was ready. I went to start it up and it took a minute but it started up and sounded like ****… would barely keep itself running, so I put it in reverse and pulled it out the garage and it died.. now when I try to start it it will turn over really strong but won’t run or try to idle.. could that be the ecm or crank positioner sensor? Idk. The motor ran fine before I did a engine rebuild a few months ago and it never gave me any issues. It has all its fluids at the correct level and the dash will come.. there is a light on for my transmission temperature. Has anyone had this issue or similar?

I’m going to check that tomorrow and order a new one if that is the case. I’ll update you on that tomorrow. I was told it was a getrag but I’m not 100% I’m going to look up the serial number to see

if i did a manual swap and left the automatic sensor in my 97 1500 5.9 magnum would it not start at all and would it for some reason also cause the fuel pump to not work either. the truck was running fine before i started the swap and now wont start and i cant get a straight answer out of anyone why it wouldnt start
sorry i went off this thread

Manual swap shouldn't affect fuel pump at all, unless you pinched the harness somewhere.....
You have to jumper the neutral safety switch for the engine to crank. If you don't have a service manual for your truck, get one from here. Wiring diagrams are in section 8W. Look up the nss, and the starter relay circuit needs to go to ground there.

PCM doesn't know if the crank sensor has failed, it can see an intermittent problem, but, if it's just bad, PCM doesn't have a clue. Did you remove the crankshaft position sensor as part of the swap? Also, there are differences between the manual trans, and auto trans sensor..... Think the manual trans sensor is shorter.....
