01 3500 24valve
this is my first 24 valve so bare with me here….the way im understanding the fuel delivery is that it has a vp-44 lift pump, im assuming this is its “fuel pump” correct?…i have also seen where this is a common problem part for these 24 valves….is there a replacement or upgrade to this pump to correct this issue?
Grid heater is between the intake elbow and intake manifold, wires go to there from relays, and relays get their power from the power distribution center, next to a driver side battery.

Not a diesel guy, but, I think the VP-44 is the injection pump, lift pump is yet another part.

Correct, VP44 is the injection pump, lift pump is either block mounted behind the fuel filter, tank mounted (like a gasser inside the tank), or its could easily have an aftermarket unit mounted about anywhere, however most aftermarket kits will mount to the front box mounting bolt or the stock block mount location.
There is lots of snake oil on the internet for the VP44. In the end, I think keep it supplied with 15-18psi fuel pressure is the biggest ticket for longevity, it keeps the pump from starving, which factory pumps did, both when they were functioning and after they died, ram figured out its easier to push fuel then pull it, hence the in tank replacements. If you do not have an aftermarket pump I would look for one, FASS and Airdog are great replacements with added filtration. I would consider a sump if going this route but it is not required if you hook to the factory lines. Bluechip always had the reputation for high quality rebuilt pumps if you would need to replace the VP44. People talk of running minor amounts of 2 stroke oil in the fuel tank to ad lubricity to the fuel and extend pump life, you would want added a low ash type, TCW-3 used to be the one, not sure how much oil has changed though, I don't follow that anymore
