yeah, i'd just plug it and go for the FIPK when you can. that will help out alot, change the filter to a bigger one for more upper end gains.

Nice setup you have Steve!

The vent breather filter should help a little bit with mileage/performance. Not sure if I missed it but adding the filter instead of the breather tube into your intake could fail an etest if they are **** (Cali for sure).
Thanks!

Yup, it would fail the visual for sure. but it's only a hose and a breather and would only take a minute to swap out.
Very true, only reason I havent done it is the mess it can make under the hood. Prior vehicles I added one to usually had a film of oil on that side of the engine compartment. I guess it could help as a undercoating for a daily driver though

yea having a fipk and then filtering that small hole would alow more hot ambiant engine bay air to flow into the thus reducing the efficiency of the cai..and the fact that the motor would want to suck more air out of that small hole b/c its the shortest point from the tb to any air opening to allow air to flow... simple rule..shortest distance is a straight line A to B

Hey Racinfan83, When you put the breather on the valve cover, did the piece that the hose hooked to sit at a 90 degreee angle? If so how did you install the filter? Did it fit inside of the valve cover? I also agree with you on the fact that the breather piece uses the intake as vacum. I just wonder with out that vacum, will the filter still work the same?! Shoot back some info if you have any.

I pulled that 90 deg. fitting out of the rubber grommet in the valve cover, which leaves a 1" hole in the grommet. The breather filter part # I listed earlier plugs right into the grommet. The plastic fitting will break if the engine isn't warm when you pull it out (don't ask me how I know that) so warm it up and use a screwdriver to help pry it out......

I'm still wondering about the lack of vacuum evacuation of the crankcase being a problem myself...I wouldn't think so?

that's what the pvc setup is for. during high vacuum situations, the pvc opens up to draw in air from the engine. when you stomp on it, the valve closes. with the filter on the breather part of the valve cover you are allowing the motor to breath in fresh air as it needs to and allows an escape route for any pressure that may build up. (someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's how it's supposed to work)

RM_Indy... I would think the filter (washable K&N is what i'd use) would absorb the oily residue that would spit out wouldnt you think?

i can imagine using a cheep foam or paper filter and enough oil saturating the filter ... then if the engine feels the need to releive itself... the presure coming out could in theroy spray some oil... cant see it happening so much it could cause problems... im getting that filter this weekend and going to run with it..ill post my results next week maybe

oh...another thought

if you filtered, or breatherd, that hole on the passenger side vavlecover... where the PCV vavle is not..

i wonder what would happen if you did the same on the drivers side vavlecover hole where the PCV vavle is...if you were to take it out and put a breather on that side...

so each breather hole on each vavlcover is filterd like picture on pg1 on the thread

any inputs? prolly a CEL

Ok guys check this out. I was at advancedauto today and happened to see this for $10.00. This breather isn't as big in diamiter as Racinfan83, but it still beats the hose. I'll give it a try and see whats happens.
