To raise or Lower... That is the question
As many of yall know I really want to modify the ride height of my truck... You can click on the cardomain link to see what i gots.
2001 Dodge ram
4x2 5.2L 318 V8
Now the question is, Should i raise or lower it? Some say raising a 4x2 is DUMB and others say dropping it sucks.. Some people say keep it as it is... Even though those people include everyone in my family (except my uncle... hes the only one thats like "LIFT IT!") but I wanna get some input from everyone...
So how bout it?
EDIT: Keep in mind, I plan on going to the drag strip once in a while and eating rice... Mmmmm...

Guess it all depends on what you plan to do with it.
I don't mind lifted 4x2's, but if you don't off-road, why lift it? You'll just be complaining about poor gas mileage that results from the increased drag and rolling resistance of larger tires. You wife will complain about not being able to get in an out as easy. You'll need to regear to get any kind of performance out of larger tires. Might not fit in your garage, etc...
Seems like for track use, a lowered suspension might be better.
If I had a 4x2, I would consider turning it into a prerunner (baja style truck). See pics.

To me lifting a 2wd doesnt make any sense. If you modify a truck to have better ground clearance and stuff but you never use it for what it is built for what is the point. Seems like a huge waste of money. I put 2 inch lowering shackles on the rear of my truck and I leveled it out niceley. I would like to lower it some more but with the boat on the back that might cause problems because I dont want it sitting too low. I might throw some 2 inch springs in the front and bring back that raked out look. Anyway if you have a 4wd and can use it the way it was meant to be used, lift it to the sky. If you have a 2wd drive lower it or leave it alone. Lifted 2wds are pointless IMO.
Being more of a street sport truck guy myself......I'm going to agree with the masses. Dont lift it.
Honestly, if you enjoy racing it or any kind of normal driving with it....maybe a small lowering kit like a 2" front/3" rear drop kit would work well. It'll lower it enough to be noticable but not enough to kill the use of the truck. It will also help with gas mileage a tiny bit, making it more aero.

NO LIFTED 2WD'S!!!!! SOOOO POINTLESS!!!
sorry for the yelling caps, just had to make my point. i'm agreeing with all of the above.
don't waste the money lifting it. though it would be cool to see a 13" lifted truck out drag a ricer....... now there's something to consider.

I kinda disagree, its his truck and he can do what ever the hell he wants with it. Just because you lift a truck doesn't mean you have to go out rock crawling. A cheap susp. lift is fine just for looks in my opinon. Whats the diffrence from lowering a truck for looks vs. raising one for looks?
You all seem to forget, you can go alot of places in 2wd
The other day I went out looking for camping spots and there was still a good 6" of snow in some shady spots in the woods, and very muddy spots. I never once put it in 4wd, even though I was coming close to throwing it in a few times

IMO, theres nothing wrong with a lifted 2WD, i mean all the 4x4s out there dont run up and down the road in 4wd so whats the difference, i think there would be nothin wrong with a lifted 2wd, although i would never do it, just cuz i wont buy anytihg but i 4x4. i would rather lower a 2wd but thats up to you....
and crazy1snow, my brother has, and dont get offended, a ford f-250 powerstroke, junk i know, that beat, not only ricers, but some mustangs, he has a 7 in lift, and 37" pro comp Xterrains with a 4"turbo back exhaust, 6" tip, Airaid CAI, and a Bully Dog perfomance chip. believe it or not this truck will run 13.40s, and that gettin it for a lifted diesel heres a pic of it.

Hmm I don't plan on doing too much off roading with this truck, even though there are times when i pass this dirt road that i know has exits off to the field where i say "Should i do it?" ... Then i go "Damnit where is Dana (G/f's sister) and her 4x4 bronco..." ... Then again why would i want a ford pulling me out? lol...
Yeah I think It's gonna be lowered a bit, remember i got a boat to tow, so maybe a 2/4 drop or equivelant, that way i can still clear the boat ramp =P
Speaking of boat ramp the one i use in PCB, FL should have a sign that says "4x4's only" ... because i was putting my waverunner in (a 600 lb , 10 foot waverunner on a 15 foot trailer) and I got stuck on the ramp... Needless to say i had someone pull me... My grandfather... and he has the smart *** remark of saying "I gotta pull another dodge out eh?" ... He was able to pull a 2001 Dodge 2500 dually CTD out of the mud that had a front end loader on a trailer attached to it... this is all with a z71... grr...
Anyone have pictures of lowered dodges? I looked on Cardomain with no luck (only skimmed first 4 pages)... I kinda liked the 2005 dodge ram they had on that mountain dew commercial LOL.

i'll suggest leaving your setup stock..
lowering it isnt good for a 4x2 truck, as if you do need to go offroad, you wont have the proper clearance.
whereas, raising it isnt useful since you wont be going offroad enough to utilize it properly.. and it does suck the gas through your anus.
I was considering raising my truck, however, I changed my mind about it since I wont be taking her offroad,. and if I do, its to a flat mud trail.
in the end it is your choice.. but everyone has the same opinion.. dont lift it.
two examples.. not exactly the best however there's not much on google either.
