Which is better--Triton 5.4 vs Magnum 5.9
That is true, any transmission will suck if you don't properly maintain it. But none of can avoid the fact that dodge doesn't make the best transmissions compared to other companies. There is no mistake why customers widespread complain about them, it's just the nature of it. I'm not trying to diss on dodge or anything, that'd be stupid, because I own one. I just think that ford makes better transmissions, never an issue. Dodges, yes, issues. And I maintain my transmissions very well. The interiors on dodges aren't the best either. There dashboards are hollow as hell, and there accessories are chincy. That's about it though. Other than that, love my truck, I wouldn't own it if I didn't think it was worth it.
you are right on that! dodge has its on internal common problems as well as chevy and ford! i get to work on all makes! americans dont know how to build to last! they build to replace!
His being a 99', it would have more power. In 99' Ford put the upgraded Triton in the F-150. Rated at 260 HP and 350 lb/ft of torque. That being said, you would still out pull him. The Ford loses too much power through their soft trannys. And the 5.4L is an ohc which has its power in the top end of the band while the 5.9L is a lower torque ohv. So he can keep fooling himself, just realize he is envious and wants a Dodge, he just doesnt want you to know the truth.

It's not that there bad, but in comparison to chevy and ford transmissions, they don't last nearly as long, and are much more prone to having issues, its just the way it is. Like I said, we own 3 dodges, and they all function, but you can tell they are getting older. We have a ford windstar with 175,000 miles on it, and they are hard miles, and the transmission is still like new. We only a lincoln and an f-150, and those trannies are also MINT even with 115,000 miles. My dodge has 103,000 miles and its fine, but it defiantly isnt like the fords.

You really cant say dodge trannys, and ford trannys...
Ford has had some junk trannys, dodge has had some junk trannys...
You went down the list of vehicles.... so now I will...
94 plymouth acclaim tranny shifted great untill 198,000 miles... dident even give anysigns of going out... just went...bam
72 dodge d-200 315,000 some odd miles when the tranny went out... shifted great up untill then other than slight slippage between gears for the last 15k or so...
01 caravan 210,000 miles and going strong
96 ford f150 102,000 some odd miles trans is almost dead (of all of our vehicles, this was the best maintained one... honestly also the loosest)
my 99 ram 90,000 miles trans shifts perfect
That is just a few vehicles the my family has
as far as friends... it just turns out the vast majority have dodges... I know like 9 people with rams, and like 6 or so with durangos... none of which have had any problems with trannys except for one that went out with 178,000 miles.
I know very few people with fords... and I know of 3 trannys failures...
ive seen a few chevys fail too...
I have seen WAAAAAY more problems with ford in the past, also seem to have the most "cheap spots" and the most stupid engineering...
I guess personally we all just see the problems we want to see. I am sure all three (Chevy, Ford, and Dodge) all share equal abundance of issues.
Anyways, this further explains the whole lifted truck with bigger tires doesn't mean better chance of winning in a tug off. Look at this beasty looking chevy, looks so tough right? But guess who wins? The short looking boring ford, just the way it is. The ford has closer to stock size tires, and is much closer to the ground. The chevy is retardily lifted so it just starts bouncing all around.

Probably everyone on this board has had something go wrong with their truck at some point in time. That's probably how 90% of us started out on this board. Vechicles are machines, machines break. Happens all the time. End of story.
It just makes sense to me. Obviously if there are mechanics in every city and suburb, and most dealerships. In order for those people to be employed all year round your **** gotta break down. Those places don't stay in business with oil changes and inspection money.

SRT-10 would OWN a Lightening.
Ford Lightening= 380hp 450 tq
SRT-10 = 500hp 525 tq!
Dodge owns, I'd take the snake 8.3L V-10 over that 5.4 ANY day!

"For now, the Lightning is forced to hand over its "King of the Street" crown to SRT-10 while Ford works diligently to bring the next-generation F-150 Lightning to market (again, see sidebar). Until then, those with a Ram on their hood have bragging rights."
