Dodge Full Size Rams- Door Rust Problems
Hello! The door bottoms of my 98 Ram full size pickup have all rusted away, where the outer door skin is crimped over the lower, horizontal edge of the inner door shell. Basically, I need doors or patch panels, however, no company seems to make repair panels for this application. Here in Pa., I guess due to the heavy use of road salt on the winter roads, many Ram pickup doors are similarly rotted. Forget used doors around here, the ones on the salvage yard trucks are all similarly rusted. I see that aftermarket sources make replacement doors, but, do they fit correctly? Does anyone out there have experience with aftermarket doors? Or know of a source for repair panels for the damaged doors? Thanks-- need some guidance--- Paul, Pa.
Hi,I am From Olyphant I just bought a ram myself. My doors are good actually but I have this Anti-Scratch chrome paneling all the way around.I thought it would be rusted under it but it isnt.To help with your question Replica Body parts in hamlin can get them.I think they have the full door skins. As far as used.Rudys in elmhurst might be a shot. But like you said all boneyard ones are probably shot as well.Good luck
Mine were also rusted slightly on the lower lip when I got it. I sanded her real good, sprayed some rust converter, prime and painted her up. It help up fine threw the winter and up till now.
I had mine done this spring, they were rusting @the seam your talking about, what they did was grind it down to what was left of the bare metal, then they repaired using a rock hard epoxy sealer that not only rebuilt the metal edges bit sealed the seam all the way around, the door was then filled with oil and then repainted.....total cost for 2 doors and 2 chip repair was 300.00.
Unlike other unamed truck makers, Dodge doesnt seal the bottom of their doors along that seam and it is suseptable to getting salt etc.. etc... in the seam.

Sorry to jump in but has anyone used the spray on bed liner on the doors and around the bottom of the truck? I saw one that was done at the gas station the other day and sparked my curiosity
two things...
i saw this on trucks on spike tv a couple of weeks ago. if you've got major holes sand down the area and you can make up some replacement panels to fit the area and hold it together using this epoxy like substance that holds as strong as any weld. simpler to do than welding and you can do it in your driveway. i can't remember what it was called but they did it on their S10K project.
second.. there are a lot of people that do the spray on bed liner on the outside of the truck. i know there have been a few guys around here that have done it. you might start another thread for it.

Hello, again! I'm very familiar with all the methods that are suggested here, what I'd really like to know, is there a lower door skin made, and a lower inner door patch section made( like the fullsize Chevy PU's have available), or, does antone have direct experience installing the aftermarket doors? Thanks again, Paul
When they did mine they relocated the drain holes by drilling new holes about 4" up on the front and back of the door If I get my truck on a steep incline I can see oil trickle a bit. I like the idea about the spray in bedliner on the underneath, you should be able to apply that w/o clogging your drain holes
