Question Resonator Delete

Ive got a 2007 4.7L and I want a little more rumble in the exhaust. I don't really have any money to spend so I was thinking of getting rid of that ugly rear resonator (just cutting it off and leaving it dumped). I'm not really familiar with exhausts so what should I expect if I do this? Thanks!

That's what i did, but I removed both resonators and changed the muffler. Having it dumped worked out just fine, going over the rear axle helped with the drone a lot.

IMO, removing just the back res won't do much for you. When I did mine, I removed the muffler and back resonator, put a thrush welded on and left it dumped there... it was too loud so I put the severed tailpipe back on and it was perfect, aggressive but definitely not loud. I wanted more noise to I took the front resonator out too, leaving the thrush muffler and cut tailpipe.

If you want a cheap solution, the thrush mufflers are about 30-50 from parts places, an 18" 2.5 extension is $10 or less (not the res-delete pipe, you need a female-male one, delete pipes are female-female) three 2.5 clamps at $2.50 each. If you ordered the muffler from Amazon, it's around $29. It has a nice rumble at idle, but doesn't scream like mad under heavy acceleration.

muffler $30
clamps $8
ext $10

I did pretty much the same thing except I had only one resonator and I used a cherry bomb glass pack pretty much the same as what FrenicX used. at one point I had it dump before the rear axle but it had too much drone so I had it run back over the rear axle and it's a lot better. I spent about $200 cause I had a shop run it back over the axle.

the 2007s only have 1 resonator right? regardless, looks like I'll just wait and get a new system. theres a nice fam owned business here and the price isn't too bad.

Got rid of both my resonators. With one off there was any sound at all. Took the other one off and opened the system up. I had it turned down by the rear axle too. Lots of weight shaved off when I did that too. Lets the truck breath better too I guess lol.

You are right, just behind the rear tire... we were lucky and didnt have 2 resos, although we do have that damn huge muffler like everyone else.

I got the thrush welded muffler and a 90 degree piece. That put it out just in front of the rear wheel. I'm currently looking for a camaro ss rectangular tip to finish it up.

How did you get over (or under) the frame?

I was looking back there the other day, there's enough room in front of the rear tire, where the frame rail turns upward, to tuck a decent amount of the pipe without worrying about the frame.
