What make and model fan did you get? I am looking at getting the flex-a-lite black magic extreme fan model #180. I was told this fan would work on the Dakota. Did using an electric fan give you better gas mileage?

I don't remember the brand name. It was a plastic one out of a Jegs magazine. Anything will work, you have to custom fab the brackets anyway.

What size did you go with?

What size is stock?

How much has it helped you out?

hey everyone,i am running a flex-a-lite black magic x-treme 180 fan (part#400-180) $269.99 and alsoa flex-a-litevariable speed control module(part#400-31165) $79.99 from jegs.com .i have been running this since 5-27-06 with no problems at all. added the variable speed because it has a soft start, and then runs at 60% if the temp rises 10 degrees above the set temp it then goes to 100%. mine has never had to do this even in hot georgia whether. i mounted my fan up the same as the fan shroud was. i have a black 2005 quad cab dakota 4.7 auto running 265-65-17 tires ,3.55 gears,ARE bed cover, lowering shackles, 63 series K&N intake, fastman 68.5 throttle body,180 degree thermostat, and the electric fan getting 15 mpg in town and 19 mpg on the highway.hope this helps !!!!

What did you set the temperature control at for the fan to come on. When the engine reaches normal operating temperature or just above operating temperature? That variable speed control sounds interesting. I may get that also when I order my fan.

i set the temp control where the fan comes on just after the thermostat has opened (when the engine is cold you can feel the top hose get hot when it opens) if you set it to low it runs all the time , if you set it to high it cycles on and off every few seconds . i had to play with mine a few times to get it to run maybe a minute at idle then off 2 minutes (dependes on how hot it is outside) thats running with a180 degree thermostat ,mine never gets to half way any more. i hooked up the a/c trigger wire so it would come on with the compressor ,but i also hooked up some switches . oneto the a/c trigger with a diode(to not back feed the a/c clutch) i run the fan at 60% when the a/c is on to keep it from cycling on and off every time the a/c clutch engages (which is alot) another one to run the fan 100% (never used) and also one to indicate when the fan is running. this was my #1 mod so far,i love it. i hated the clutch fan roar i had,and i felt more power freed up for this than the K&Nintake or fastman 68.5 mm thorttle body. was expecting more gas milage, but i drive pretty hard!!!!!!!! hope this helps ???? glad to help.

Ok, uhm... I'm loving this set up.

Do you have any more pictures, of like the actual setup?

Or can you do like a walk through for all of us on here?

A very well write up on how you did everything would be VERY helpful... as I feel a lot of people would like to do this, just don't have an idea as to how to do it...

Please?
