Default Headers

Has anybody here swapped their exhaust manifolds for headers ? My impression is that for under 3000 rpm, they would be a waste of $$$ but has anybody got real experience with them ?

Yeah I would have put headers on mine but as far as I know they don't make headers for the 3.7L... and as far as being a waste of money under 3000 rpms... it couldn't possibly hurt ur performance can it... I mean you just wouldn't see any gains or losses under 3000 rpms... right??

I was just reading the latest edition of 4 wheel and off road magazine and they did a story on products to help get better gas mileage and performance and 3things they recomend are headers, throttle body, and electric fan along with other stuff. So I think headers will not hurt anything. I allows the engine to get rid of exhaust gases more efficently.

I'm more concerned with improving low rpm power(torque) for towing a 6,000 trailer. The ceramic coated headers are $750 so if they won't do me any/much good, I'd rather spend the $$$ on something else. I'm specifically considering ceramic coated because of the reduced under-hood temp since ceramic coating causes more of the heat to go out the pipe instead of thru it, into the engine compartment.

You'll definetly feel the difference in the low end torque. More power in both HP and TQ.

Like you I'd rather have it on the low end. I was looking at headers and there are only three that I could find, Gibson, JBA, and Headman.

ORIGINAL: Gibson Website

Every Gibson Header is Dyno-tuned and engineered to deliver more usable horsepower and torque at low and mid-range RPM highway speeds.
Here are some prices I found...
Jegs (pn# GP316S) $511.99
Summit (pn# GP316) $427.69

I may just hold off on the whole exhaust thing until I get headers....

You can increase your HP and torque in high rpms with headers or in low rpms but not both to my knowledge. Here's a tidbit of info from the Intake/Headers/Exhaust section:

ORIGINAL: deerang

long tube headers give peak power at a high rpb, while short tube give at a lower rpm. It all depends on how you're gonna be driving. Racing, a higher rpm so long tubes.....towing and regular street driving will benefit from a shortie header.
