Baggey that's cool. I know Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Gibson, MBRP, Jba all make kits. Before I put the Delta 40 on mine, I had a Flowmaster Force II kit. It has a Light Truck and SUV 50 series 3 chamber muffler that is defiantly not real loud. I had an exhaust shop install mine, because I wanted it welded, but I know a lot of people do it themselves. It's just a bit louder than stock at idle but has a nice rumble on acceleration but again not real loud. Go to autoanything.com, they have pretty good selection of kits and prices.

the only way you are gonna get a kit and hang it yourself is if you get a single. unless you have a welder were you can tack weld hangers for the oppisite side of the truck to hang duals.

I do have a welder so I can do duals if I can find a kit that I like.

My Flowmaster has always sounded just right to me. Nice sound when I take off and very easy on the ears while crusing at highway speeds.

Summit Racing has a Cherry Bomb Vortex kit for the 4.7L Dakota, you would need to call them and make sure it's for our years though.

I would recommend the Vortex mufflers over Flow 40s. I personally think they sound better and they have been shown to flow better. In a 3" inlet the Flow 40's flow 392cfm while the Vortex flows 578cfm.

$500 for an exhaust is a little much. I was thinking like half that tops. I am a college student.

im tellin ya man, buy a borla pro xs muffler online with the desired inlet/outlet size and pattern. the muffler alone can be stolen on ebay new in box for anywhere from 80-120 and then buy the tip you want or have your local shop use their tips. sounds GREAT and is a superb product when it comes to quality.

its a little on the quiet side for about the first 50-100 miles then it gets a bit louder. also take off both resistors. a little louder than stock at idle, souds great around town, but not too loud, and same on the highway...no cab drone at all. and when you get on it, it really opens up and sounds MEAN.

if the above paragraph sounds like the description of something you want, buy it. if you arnt satisfied, i will mail you a check (not really, but you will thank me)...or you can go with something that everyone else has, sounds just like everyone else, and just be another face in the crowd. or you can stand out with something no one has, and sounds different, in SUCH a great way.

you get borla, great...if not, great, ill still be the only one i know with it

here is a vid...now i only had 1 resistor off at the time, but you have to remember, the camera is so close so....

BUT,
if you want the whole kit from borla, well then im sorry, its way out of the price range your lookin at

So I decided to contact a local shop and have them do the exhaust for me. The kits that I've seen don't do what I want so I figure this is the next best thing.
Now I just need to figure out what muffler to get him. What do people suggest? I figure I'll get the muffler and wrap that to put under the tree.
I imagine he'll want something that has a nice low growl to it. Not really loud but when he starts it in a parking lot people will know it's a 4.7 and that it has an aftermarket exhaust.

I don't think you'll ever get agreement with an exhaust ?. But I say if you go with flowmaster you probably don't want the 40 series, you should go for the 50's. It's a deeper tone and not as loud.
