Default Outside Air Intake Question

Have any of you noticed that your truck runs much better (more power, quicker throttle response) on cool/cold days ? Mine sure does. When summer (in Texas) hits and the temp stays high, the power drops. That has to be related to hot air coming into the intake. I have had the Airraid CAI for 3 years and it seals as well as it can against the hood but I suspect that there is a lot on under-hood air entering.

Here comes the question:

Has anyone built a cool air intake that brings in air from under or in front of the truck ?
I'm thinking about something made out of PVC pipe that comes out of the air box and winds down to an opening in the grill. Someone somewhere has probably built one.
Any ideas ?

Close Snipe, Short Rams take air directly from the engine bay... ours take it from the fender well and the heat shield differentiates the engine bay air from the fendwell air... I guess you could say ours is a cross breed between SRI and CAI

Rick, I know some 2nd Gens have done it, I am not sure about the 3rd Gens, go for it try it out Let us know

Airaid makes this intake product for the Dak using the stock filter housing. I believe it would be easier to route cold air intake plumbing to the stock box, then use the Airaid filter and intake tube to the throttle body. This is the set-up I plan to use.

I forgot to mention that the filter box is the least restrictive part of the set-up, and you can route the tube through the fender...I think

Just be careful where you're pulling the air from. When I had the integra there were a couple guys on those forums who did this and ended up sucking in enough water from rain spray to hydrolock the engine. There was an aftermarket CAI for them that routed very low but they had a draining solution built into it, I forget exactly how it was set up.
