Default New 08 Dakota owner

Hey guys,

I recently purchased an 08 Dakota SXT. Its got the V8 and the 3.92 in the back! Lovin it! Its due for an oil change, its first one! YAY! I don`t want to bring it to the dealer ship for the change but on my little message board in the dash it says CHANGE OIL everytime I fire it up. My questions are:

When I change the oil, is it going to automaticaly figure it out or will I need to do a reset or whatever...

How do you do this reset if necessary...

Thanks guys!

Hmmm...I have an '08 and don't have that "Change Oil" indication. Weird. I do however have the extra "chime or ding" that happens about 5 seconds after the truck is started.

IF you happen to have that chime try this:

1. Turn the key to the "Run" position but don't start the truck.
2. Press the accelerator pedal down 3 times
3. Turn the key off.
4. Now start the truck to see if you get the chime/ding.

Excellent! Just tried it! Works! Thanks a lot!

As for the change oil indication, when the chime sounds, where it says what gear your in and the outside temperature, it shows CHANGE OIL twice and then disappears...that's on a Canadian model.

Thanks for the tips!

Also have an 08 here and I get the indicator "change oil" since I'm over 3000 miles and mine is also on the instrument cluster in the gear selector readout. Kind of a pain since I run synthetic and go at least 5000 between changes. Going to try the key/ignition, press go pedal 3 times thing later today to shut the pita off.

I wonder if there is a program update the dealers can install into the '08s who have that indicator for those that run synthetic. Just a thought if the key trick doesn't work like it does on the chime.
