Default 180 stat

I was wondering, why the 180 stat is better then the stock 195 stat. I thought 195 degrees was the running tem for the vehicles wouldnt 180 be bad for it?

From what I understand, every engine is different. It just seems to be that the 4.7 runs better at 180*F. I would just think it was personal perception, but it seems to be pretty accepted. Someone may have dino'd with the stat and it made a difference. I'm not sure.

BTW, I do have a 180*, and I feel the truck is happier.

A cooler engine is a happier engine...and from what i have heard, the truck will run a tiny bit richer because the truck thinks it isn't completely warmed up resulting in a tiny bump in hp.

I was thinking about putting the 180 in while my truck be in the shop. He raised a question about the truck might not pass the Emissions test for NJ? anyone in jersey have the 180 in there 4.7 and have any problems at the inspection center?

When an engine runs cooler you lower the risk of predetonation. You can also go one range colder on plugs and run higher octane to compensate for aggressive tuning.

mhm i do have the cooler NGKS so i guess 180 stat and just throw in 91 before going through inspection i guess? because my trucks thermostat is at 209 i know most of the dakotas are at 195? idk why its hotter but is..

mine runs at 206 with a 195 stat

mine runs constantly at 188-192 with a 180 stat...maybe there is a ten degree difference from where the thermostat is and the temp sensor.
