Default okay im really mad guys help?

hey all well last nite i was going to go to a party and take my truck go to start it i hear a noise got mad thinkign it was a coil listen more its taping noise sure we all know thats not good. i just changed it oil in it was 2 weeks? so go down to get new oil and oil filter. looked at the oil my dad gave me to put in its was 20w 50... so i put in 10w30 didnt change the filter because i was told its still good. started it up no more ticking!!! woot i was happy. then my buddy calls me to ask him to put on his new exhaust system so i get some stuff and start up my truck and the ticking comes back... sat there let it warm up a bit it went away. drove out there truck felt like new, go to head home about 50 mins ago and i had the tap wasnt as loud as with the old oil but noticeable. drove slowly letting it warm up because his mom doesn't like trucks idling. so i called my buddy i told him how i switched the oild ect hes saying tomorrow when im done to come over and him and i are going to add the Lucius to it. if not im taking it to the dealership and letting them do it. the truck has 48,246 miles on it it should not be doing this, it only has had Castrol GTX oil in it. have any of u had this problem? im sorry i dont feel like searching around im really worked up right now making me frustrated.

I've never heard of that. I know some 4.7Ls while warming up will get the "exhaust tick." I would say play it safe. Check the oil level, let it warm up and then change the oil and filter to ensure all of the heavy 20W50 drains out. Then put in the new filter/oil.

I've read that running oil that heavy can damage your oil pump or drastically drop your oil pressure.

I found some info. As a rule, a OHC engine like ours should never use heavy oil such as 20w50.

As a rule, overhead cam (OHC) engines typically require thinner oils such as 5W-30 or 5W-20 to speed lubrication of the overhead cam(s) and valve train
when the engine is first started.
http://www.aa1car.com/library/oil_viscosity.htm

Heavier viscosities, such as 20W-50, straight 30W or 40W, may help maintain good pressure in hot weather but are too thick for cold weather driving and may cause start-up lubrication problems - especially in overhead cam engines.

I would brother, eliminate that first. Your cams, valves and oil pump will thank you.

Valve lashes adjusters. That’s all you need to know cause that's what it is. I would never run oil any heaver then 10W30 synthetic. The 5W20 is too light IMO but that’s what the factory calls for. The 4.7 valve lash adjusters have been a problem for a long time but it seems not to be a problem as far as premature ware. GMs 305 and a few others have the same problem. The noise sounds like a diesel and last on a cold engine for about a few seconds to about a minute more prevalent on the right side. It may be confused with an exhaust tic but they are two very different noises.
