Default Motor Swap

I have a 2006 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab with a 3.7 V6 I was offered a new 4.7 V8 w/tranny that only has 9k miles from a totaled out truck for $1200. I was wondering would it be worth it and would there be alot I would have to change on the truck if I swapped the motors out.

It shouldn't be too difficult, you might need the PCM from the 4.7L or get an SCT tuner to write you a 4.7L tune for your 3.7L.

Very good deal price wise, because you would then have a 3.7 and a 42RLE to then sell. Although I haven't seen it done personally the motor mounts are in the same place IIRC. Is the new trans the RFE or the Getrag stick?

I was told the mount where not the same between the two motors.
are you sure this is right?

I was looking at doing this awhile back, but the mounting wasn't the same, mabye it is, need a couple of guys with the two motor to get together and fugure this one out.

are the trans the same size? same bolt up.

I'd really be intrested to know!

Take the 545rfe tranny, and get a 5.7l hemi!

Or find a 4.7l out of a 2008+ ....

If KRC's billet cams do what they say, I would say find a 06-07 4.7L HO and put the billets in them. It would be alot more power than the 08 4.7L or the Hemi. Only one problem.........the KRC billetts were supposed to be on the street mid Feb and still nothing.

Heck, I'm still waiting on my 224s and those are only regrinds, lol.

If you have the $ and time, the Hemi swap is the way to go. The Hemi has such better aftermarket support its out of control. If you have alot of $ buy the 6.4L Hemi from Sharadon Performance, lol.

i would say labor wise it wouldnt be worth it for the minimal gain youll get. i second the 5.7 hemi or cummins swap. that way your still putting down the labor. and the price of parts will be a little bit more but the outcome will be much better.
