Or you could just get a plane... just a thought.

No worries. The sensor probe that you pushed through the radiator is a water temp sensor. Your stock water temp sensor is just below you MAP sensor on the front of the intake manifold.
Does your controller allow you to set high and speeds? Its a little more tricky with a radiator probe than the OEM coolant temp sensor. Are you using a 180 thermostat? I ask because mine will warm up to 180 and the thermostat will open and the temp drops radically agian, lol. Well, unless I run the AC and then it will stay right at 180.

Nope, this controller is the same one Newmexico has. I belive its just off or on. You can set the fan start between 150-240 deg. or on with A/C. Yes, I have the cooler 180 stat installed. Coolant temp seems to stay pretty much l;evel after warm up.
I'm spoiled, went for about a year or two without A/C on the ranger. Now I cant get enough. I try to keep the outside air outside, as it is allergy season for me.
BTW, took it for a long drive today, and it seemed the the temp needle pretty much stayed in the same spot, just over a 1/4. A/C all the way.

ok. I misunderstood what you were saying.
The probe should be placed in as far as possible, and as close to the upper rad hose as possible...
The probes are not the best way to go about it though.
Some cheaper 3/8s NPT probes are out there, and they actually measure the coolant temp. I use one of these.

notice how it uses the NPT temp sensor. that screws in to the top rad hose. there is already a 3/8 plug in it.
