Pulling The Heads

Pulling The Heads
With that said, I'm leaking coolant on the passenger side of the block. We did a compression test and I haven't lost compression yet but if the gasket is failing its inevitable.
List for this install evolution.
1. Fastman 69mm Throttle Body
2. Comp Beehive High Load Springs for 4.6L Cobra
3. Cometic Head Gaskets
4. Hylomar Spray
5. Mopar Head Bolt Kit
6. New Header Gaskets
7. New intake Manifold Gaskets
8. Aftermarket Water Pump
I supported the A/C Compressor

With a paint marker I marked the positions on the cam sprocket and removed it from the chain and inserted a large rope. This was to keep the chain inplace while I pull the head.

The heads looked pretty rough with carbon deposits and all

Then I cleaned them with carb cleaner and a brass brush.

The new GMB Waterpump

I installed the new Cometic head gasket with hylomar spray
Gaskets002.jpg
I installed the head with new bolts and torqued to 45lbs and then with a torque angle gauge went 90 degrees making each bolt right at 80 foot lbs torque.
I also painted the valve covers and manifold with high temp paint sprayed through a HPLV sprayer.

yeah, and without good headstuds you will rip up the stock head gasket pretty easy on high boost... heck you can rip up good headgaskets on highboost without good head studs. my talons been through 2 already, and its not even real high boost. the ARP studs going in ti this rebuild should cure that issue. (fingers crossed.)

blown.... is there any reviews for the cometic gaskets with a similar setup? on the diesel side, the cometic gasket has been a big problem, not standing up to the boost like the stock one will, and if the head and block were not surfaced all at the same time and completely perfect, it was alomst an instant failure, we just went back to the stock gaskets and arp studs, with zero problems, just my

Trucker, thanks brother. Cometic has the only multi-layer steel replacement that I can find. I just need something that will hold 14psi with 224 cams. Most of the diesel guys are running major boost. Anywhere from 25-55psi lol. Right now I'm only pulling down 12psi but once I switch to the 3" pulley I will be back to 14 psi.
Jerry, I'm always glad to have help, lol. Travis is back in town so we will probably start on it this week.

seems alot of work and troubles all of a sudden with the new set up. i am pushing 94000 miles and the only issues is fowling plugs. need to lower the nitrous jets alittle and the crappy gas lately, these motors are good till around 120000 miles before head gasket failure starts. i noticed some of my friends with the older 4.7 are having head gasket issues
