If you can still get it, I have a 2007 Dodge Dakota ST, 6-Speed Manual transmission 3.7L V6.

I didn't get a chance to do this last year but I have more time now and the weather has been really nice so i am revisiting this thread. I think I will start by looking at the Viper alarm/remote starter models. The model that dakota_raven suggested looks really nice but $250 would probably be the maximum that I would want to spend.

Does anyone else have any other recommendations, advice, etc?

How can anyone justify spending over $500 on a remote starter/alarm just for the parts (no installation)? I am looking at Viper's website and the cheapest one is $449.

And why is it so much cheaper at the link that dakota_raven posted?
Viper $599: http://www.viper.com/P-5702V/Viper-5...e-Start-System
Sonic $249: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...p-n-5702V.html

Is SonicElectronix.com a trustworthy re-seller? Has anyone bought from them?

I'm thinking of picking up one of these...
http://cgi.ebay.com/VIPER-5901-LC3-L...item2eb67e7b20

It's refurbished but its definitely the cheapest I will ever find the Viper 5901 at $189.

Wow thanks for showing me that. it is $224 from amazon the one for $206 is listed on amazon but it's from a different retailer. I think I'll pay the extra $18 to get it from amazon cuz idk anything about those other retailers.

The cheapest new one i found on eBay was more than $224 and who knows if it's actually new and unused.

Well i went ahead and ordered it off of Amazon. It was about $220 with the shipping. I can't wait till it gets here.

Should I make a how-to thread for the installation? I will include pictures, and any obstacles that I might come across.

Just get the interface module and it'll be a breeze. The module takes care of a lot of things, like the door locks, OEM alarm control, etc.

I don't have any of that, lol My truck is as basic as they get, with no power options. I didn't order the bypass unit yet. I will probably wait till I install everything else before I order it. When I put a remote starter in my sisters car, all the online references said that I needed a bypass module but I never put it in and it worked fine. I'm not expecting the same result with my truck but I figured it would be worth a shot in effort to save $15 on the bypass unit, lol.

You need it, all 2006+ Dakotas have the IMO.

It seems that 2005 it was an option.

Sure way to know: Grey key = IMO, and a keyless key (that sounds wrong lol) = IMO.
